SAN ANTONIO – A 32-year-old woman has been arrested on a charge of injury to a child for allegedly beating a 12-year-old boy and not allowing him to eat as a form of punishment.
An arrest affidavit for Tiffany Harris stated that a Bexar County sheriff's deputy was sent to the boy's school on May 29 to follow up on information that had come to light.
The boy had been caught stealing a slice of bread from another student's backpack and admitted under questioning that he was hungry because Harris had sent him to bed the night before without any dinner, the affidavit stated.
Following that incident, two of the boy's friends came forward saying that he also had bruises on his stomach from a beating, the affidavit stated.
Sheriff's detectives said the boy told them Harris had also administered the beating, hitting him on the stomach with her hands, which she purposely wet to add to the sting, the affidavit stated.
He reportedly told them Harris was angry after catching him eating his sister's chips.
The boy told them another adult was present in the home at the time but did not try to stop the abuse, the affidavit stated.
Detectives said they questioned another child in the home who told them the abuse had been ongoing, and that Harris often withheld food from the boy as a form of punishment.
The other child told deputies that she also had been abused by Harris, but both she and the boy had been threatened with more harm if they reported it.
Harris was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Bexar County Jail.
