Bexar deputy wounded in shooting involving son, father

Son shot father inside home, then was fatally shot by Bexar deputies

SAN ANTONIO – A Bexar County sheriff's deputy and another man are recovering in the hospital Thursday night after being shot.

The Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened at about 7:30 p.m in the 6800 block of Honeyridge Lane.

Officials said deputies responded to a home where a man in his 20s had shot his father. The man's father ran to get help at a neighbor's home.

When deputies arrived, they entered the home where the shooting took place and began clearing the scene.

They cleared the first floor of the home and were going upstairs when the man in his 20s fired at them.

Two deputies returned fire, killing the suspect, the Sheriff's Office said.

One deputy was shot in the arm and taken to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to be OK.

"These two officers that discharged their weapons will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the shooting investigation. Our shooting team is on scene and will complete this investigation," Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau said.

The shooting suspect's father was also take to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

The Sheriff's Office said the deputy who was shot, a 10-year veteran, and the second deputy who opened fire have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
