Woman falls asleep driving, crashes into big rig, officials say

Woman's car dragged for quarter-mile

SAN ANTONIO – A woman who was injured in a major crash fell asleep at the wheel, Bexar County Sheriff's deputies said.

The wreck happened around 7:30 a.m. at Highway 90 and State Highway 211 -- outside Loop 1604 in west Bexar County.

Deputies said the woman in her 20s  was driving a silver sedan when she dozed off and hit the back end of a semi-trailer.

The car became wedged underneath the semi and was dragged for about a quarter-mile before the big rig driver pulled over.

"(The big rig driver) felt a jerk and thought he had had a blowout," Bexar County spokeswoman Rosanne Hughes said.

The woman was trapped inside the car and had to be pulled out. An ambulance took her to University Hospital in unknown condition.

No one else was hurt.
