Neighbors heard gunshots prior to bodies found in burned home

Autopsy results pending on bodies found in Schertz home fire

SCHERTZ, Texas – Schertz police are still waiting on autopsy results after the bodies of two people were found inside a burned home off Interstate 10 near Pfeil Road Saturday afternoon.

Detectives are treating the case as a criminal investigation and on Monday, yellow police tape could still be seen surrounding the home.

"It pretty much burned the house down to the foundation. There is very little remaining of the actual house," said Schertz police Lt. John Correu.

Correu said that it was a relative who reported the fire to police.

Correu said Schertz police investigators also received several reports of gunshots in the area around the time of the shooting.

He said due to the heat of the fire, it took a while before emergency responders could even go into the home and fire officials had to call in extra help from the San Antonio and Schertz police and fire departments.

Once crews made their way inside, they found two charred bodies that were then turned over to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.

"The autopsy was done (Sunday) and what we do know is that it was a male and female that were discovered in the fire," Correu said.

Police are still waiting on dental records that will determine their identities. Those results are expected to be released Tuesday.

Records show police officers responded to a violent disturbance call made by a resident of the home in 2010.
