Mayor sets deadline for police union contract

Taylor: City, union must finalize contract by July 31


SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor has set a deadline to hammer out a contract with the city's police labor union.

Taylor met with San Antonio Police Officers Association president Mike Helle on Thursday and told him the two sides need to return to the bargaining table and finalize a contract by July 31.

The mayor has said the total public safety budget cannot exceed 66 percent of the city's general fund budget.
