Teen robbery suspect: 'Don't make the wrong choices'

Ardalan Beryeji, 17, accused of armed robbery, firing weapon

SAN ANTONIO – A 17-year-old was arrested Friday in connection with the armed robbery of a convenience store earlier this week.

Police accuse Ardalan Beryeji in the robbery of the store in the 8700 block of Wurzbach Road Monday night.

Investigators credit his arrest partly to a bit of luck. A patrol officer recognized Beryeji from a surveillance video of the robbery.

Police said Beryeji is accused of walking into the store and ordering a customer and employee who were outside the store to come inside. Police said he then tried to rob the customer and the store clerk. He was carrying what police said was a large-caliber handgun.

"During the course of the robbery, he actually discharged that firearm into the ground. Bullet fragments actually struck the ground and then hit one of the clerks in the shoulder and in the hip, injuring her," San Antonio Police Department Sgt. Javier Salazar said.

Police said Beryeji fled the store with the cash. He was arrested Friday at a motel.

As police led Beryeji in handcuffs to a patrol car, he offered some advice.

"Don't make the wrong choices," he said. "Doing what I did was stupid. You see? End up in a bad situation."

He is being held at the Bexar County Jail and has been charged with aggravated robbery.
