SAN MARCOS, Texas – San Marcos police are investigating a Monday morning shooting that left one man dead and two others injured. 

Police said the shooting happened at about 2 a.m. in the 1700 block of River Road.

A caller told police one person had been shot in the head after three men wearing all black entered the home and fired several shots.

The shooters then fled the scene in a silver Toyota Avalon, which officers tracked down and pulled over. Four men ranging in age from 17 to 21 were taken into custody. Officers also found a handgun in the car.

Police said the body of Joel Espino, 21, was found in the home along with a stolen rifle.

Shortly after the discovery of Espino's body, two men showed up at Central Texas Medical Center with gunshot wounds. One of the shooting victims was released. The other was taken to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin for treatment.

Police said the shooting may have started as a possible attempted robbery. Investigators said the home has been reported as a known drug location.
