Comal, Guadalupe rivers to open for holiday weekend

Corps of Engineers to reduce flow from Canyon Dam on Wednesday

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – The Comal and Guadalupe rivers will be open for the Fourth of July weekend, police said Wednesday.

After being closed for part of the day Tuesday due to unsafe flow levels, the Comal River reopened for recreation Wednesday morning.

The Guadalupe River, which has been closed for several weeks to tubers due to unsafe conditions, is expected to be ready for tubing soon.

The Corps of Engineers on Wednesday are scheduled to reduce the flow from the Canyon Dam from 3,500cfs to 400 cfs, which will decrease the flow rate of the river to allow for safe tubing.

We'll let you know once the go-ahead is given by New Braunfels police.
