Man, 84, in critical condition after bee attack

Hundreds of bees attack man at abandoned building

SAN ANTONIO – An 84-year-old man is in critical condition after he was stung by a swarm of bees Wednesday afternoon.

San Antonio Fire Department spokesman Christian Bove said the attack happened just before 2 p.m. at an abandoned building in the 10000 block of Zarzamora Street.

Bove said the victim was doing some concrete work with four other men when hundreds of bees came out of a wall and began to sting them.

He said the victim tried to get away by running to his car, but the bees followed him inside the car and continued to sting him as he tried to raise the window and start the car.

"(Firefighters) made entry to the property and used some foam to wet down that vehicle and try to calm down the bees (and get them) away from the gentlemen," Bove said. "They were able to get that man out of the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital."

Two other men were taken to a hospital and said to be OK.
