SAN ANTONIO – U.S. Border Patrol agents rescued nearly a dozen undocumented immigrants from an 18-wheeler carrying onions at a border checkpoint Thursday morning.
Agents said they were inspecting the tractor-trailer at the Falfurrias Checkpoint when a service K-9 alerted them to something suspicious.
Agents opened the trailer to find 11 undocumented immigrants wedged between pallets of onions with no way to get out in case of an emergency.
No one was injured and all denied medical treatment.
The driver, a U.S. citizen, was taken into custody and the tractor-trailer was seized. The case has been referred to the Rio Grande Valley Sector North Prosecutions Office.
