SAPD: Customers pistol-whipped during bank robbery

Group of men rob IBC bank branch on Loop 410

SAN ANTONIO – A group of men dressed in black stormed into an IBC bank branch Thursday morning on the city's Southwest Side and pistol-whipped customers before getting away, police said.

San Antonio Police Department spokesman Doug Greene said four to five armed men robbed the branch around 9:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Southwest Loop 410.

Greene said the fact that those customers were attacked made this holdup out of the ordinary for San Antonio. He also said instead of a lone bank robber, four to five men carried out the robbery.

He said the suspects appeared to have the robbery well planned.

"These guys had it all set up how they were going to do this and they got in and got out very quickly," Greene said.

Greene said the robbers fled westbound with an undisclosed amount of money, including a deposit from a local church. However, police have not yet released a vehicle description. He said robbery detectives would be reviewing past cases for any similarities.

He said two or three people were treated at the scene.

"It's nothing that's life-threatening where someone would need to be transported to the hospital," Greene said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 210-240-STOP (7867).
