SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio fire fighters Monday responded to a massive house fire on the city's Northwest Side.
A police officer was patrolling the area around 9 p.m. when he spotted smoke coming from the home in the 1000 block of Vance Jackson.
Fire officials said burglar bars kept crews from getting inside quickly. They also had to use a chainsaw to cut through a fence to get to the house.
No one was inside at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported.
Crews battle the flames for more than half an hour as they tried to keep them from spreading. Fire officials said the home was full of furniture and other items which fueled the fire.
Several hotels and restaurants surround the home but did not have to be evacuated.
The home suffered major fire and smoke damage. Damages are estimated at $150,000. Its cause is under investigation.
