Man arrested after leading deputies on SE Side chase

Victor Cruz, 28, pointed gun at deputies, BCSO says

SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a man Friday after he led them on a chase through the city's Southeast Side.

BCSO spokesman James Keith said the Fugitive Apprehension Unit was executing an arrest warrant for Victor Cruz in the 1700 block of San Carlos Street when he fled.

Cruz, 28, took off around 6:15 p.m in a dark-colored BMW and led deputies on a 15-minute chase along several streets, including stints on Presa and Hackberry.

Deputies brought the chase to a stop in the 400 block of Fair Avenue after performing a PIT maneuver on the vehicle. Cruz was taken into custody with assistance from the San Antonio Police Department after resisting arrest, according to the BCSO. The Department of Public Safety also assited in the chase.

"It looked like something from the TV," witness Pete Torres said. "We had to stop for awhile because I was with my wife and they were coming so fast from all directions. I was afraid they were going to hit us, but they got him."

The Sheriff's Office said Cruz rammed several other vehicles and pointed a gun at deputies during the pursuit.

Cruz was taken to Mission Trail Baptist Hospital for evaluation, the BCSO said. No one else was injured.

The Sheriff's Office said Cruz is accused of shooting at a home in the 1700 block of San Carlos earlier this week. Deputies found Cruz Friday at the location of the shooting earlier in the week.

Cruz told people close to him he would shoot it out with officers and anyone who crossed him, the Sheriff's Office said.

Keith said Cruz was wanted on six warrants on charges including possession of a controlled substance, theft of a vehicle and assault with bodily injury.

He will now face more charges, including evading arrest.
