Man killed in shooting near school identified

Albert Nelson, 19, found dead Friday near Elolf Elementary

SAN ANTONIO – A young man who was killed in a shooting near Elolf Elementary has been identified as Albert Nelson, 19.

Bexar County sheriff's deputies responded to a call for a shooting near the school at about 1 p.m. Friday.

When they arrived, they found evidence of a shooting but no one was there. Shortly after that, deputies were called to a home about a mile away in the 8800 block of Staghorn Mill, where they found Nelson dead in the driveway.

During the investigation, deputies learned of a 15-year-old who had been taken to Northeast Methodist Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said Saturday Nelson and the 15-year-old may have shot each other during an argument over drugs.

Nelson was awaiting trial on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon when he died Friday, the Sheriff's Office said.

Charges are pending against the 15-year-old, who has not been identified.
