6 in custody, 3 charged in burglary of gun holster shop

SAPD: Suspects may be involved in burglary ring

SAN ANTONIO – Six people are in police custody and three have have been charged in the burglary of a Northwest Side gun holster store.

Police charged Jade Escobar, 19, Johnny Davidson, 28, and Matthew Montoya, 18, with the burglary of a building. The other three men are behind held on unrelated charged.

San Antonio police said the burglary took place near Bandera Road and Loop 410 at the On Your 6 Designs store, which sells gun holsters.

"Basically, they ransacked our store/shop area. All the tools, the knives, etc., motors, drill presses, grills, you name it," said store owner Nicholas Gangi.

Gangi said his employees arrived to work at about 5 a.m. and caught the suspected thieves in the act.

"They had stuff in their hands and he said, 'What are you doing?' Calm, collected and cool, they put (the items) in the car and just started peeling out," said Gangi.

The suspects fled in two vehicles. The store owner and an employee followed one of the vehicles -- a van -- but lost track of it. Police eventually tracked down the van to a nearby trailer park.

"They found a lot that was associated with that vehicle. That lot contained actually much of the stolen property that was taken from the store. It was out in plain view in the yard," San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar said.

Officers recovered 40 to 50 gun cases while executing a warrant. Police believe the suspects may have thought they were getting handguns, not just the cases.

"It's slim to none to get your stuff back. The odds of us finding this stuff on a normal basis is not going to happen and that would've really hurt us," Gangi said.

Due to the number of suspects arrested, police are looking into the possibility of the suspects being involved in a burglary ring.

More arrests are possible, police said.
