The spill happened while SAWS crews were working on cleaning and constructing improvements to a large sewer line in the 1500 block of Mission Road.

The spill was contained and quickly diverted into a nearby sewer manhole, but a small amount of sewage reached the river.

SAWS crews will continue to monitor the area.
