3 families displaced after fire in South Side apartment complex

Fire started on third floor before spreading to roof

SAN ANTONIO – Three families are displaced after a fire broke out at the Alta Vista apartments in the 2800 block of West Hutchins Place.

The fire broke out at about 8:20 p.m. on Saturday night.

San Antonio Fire Battalion Chief Brad May said it started in one apartment on the third floor, then spread up to the attic and to the other apartments on the top floor.

May said crews knocked it out in about 20 minutes and were able to contain the fire to that one apartment building.

Although the damage is on the top floor, firefighters said they had to evacuate the entire building.

May said there is an estimated $100,000 worth of damage and as of late Saturday night, arson investigators were on their way to the scene.
