2 charged after child found in locked cage inside home


Chatsworth, GA – A mother was arrested after deputies discovered an 11-year-old locked in a cage at a home in northwest Georgia.

A Murray County deputy was responding to a 911 call regarding a child being left home alone when he found two homemade cages inside the home. One cage was empty.

The mother of the child, 34-year-old Stephanie Stone (pictured left), was arrested and charged with cruelty to children, false imprisonment, and possession of a controlled substance.

Wanda Redfern, 49, (pictured right) was inside the home at the time of the arrest. She was also charged with cruelty to children and false imprisonment.

Both women remain are in custody and no bond has been issued. The relationship of the two women are unknown at this time. Police say they are searching for a third suspect.

Neighbors say they never suspected anything like this was happening.

"I am very surprised," said neighbor Marisol Martinez. "This is a very nice community and that is the reason I moved here."

This case is still under investigation by the Murray County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
