Tips lead to arrest of convenience store robbery suspect

Jose Avila Jr., 34, charged with aggravated robbery

SAN ANTONIO – Tipsters have led San Antonio police to a man suspected in an armed robbery at a Northwest Side convenience store.

Investigators said Jose Avila Jr., 34, has been arrested in connection with the Aug. 11 robbery of Fuel Station #3 in the 3200 block of West Avenue.

They believe he walked into the convenience store with a gun, pointed the weapon at a clerk and took off with cash from the register.

Several people called in tips after a surveillance photo was broadcast on local news stations. Police said Avila’s probation officer was able to use information from those tips to confirm the robber was Avila.

Avila was charged with aggravated robbery, and police believe he might have been involved in another robbery case. He has not yet been charged in the second case.
