Texas Diaper Bank sets goal of 1 million diapers for October

Campaign held in conjunction with Diaper Need Awareness Month

SAN ANTONIO – The city of San Antonio has declared the month of October Diaper Need Awareness Month, during which the Texas Diaper Bank hopes to gather 1 million diapers.

The “One Million Diapers for Babies” campaign will accept monetary or diaper donations at drop-off locations throughout the city.

Each year, the bank provides more than 700,000 diapers to more than 9,000 babies of low-income families in Bexar County. The campaign hopes to raise enough supplies for 40,000 babies, expanding service to Bandera, Comal, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, Travis and Uvalde counties.

“Diapers are a costly expense for a family with a baby, and oftentimes low-income families are forced to choose between this basic need and others, such as food and housing,” said Jorge Medina, executive director of Texas Diaper Bank. “A clean diaper impacts the well-being, growth and development of a baby, so contributors to this campaign and our mission are effectively helping to give babies a healthy start in life.”
