Former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel speaks on immigration, national issues

Former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel was in San Antonio Tuesday to discuss a number of issues currently facing the country.

Hagel spoke as part of Trinity University's Policy Maker Breakfast Series, which brings national and international leaders to the area to present their views on current and emerging issues.

When immigration topic came up, Hagel said the country welcomes undocumented people, but it must be done legally.

"I think the process that we have now to protect those borders is affective. You’re always going to have people illegally crossing the border,” said Hagel. “I don't think it's a national disaster. I don’t think it’s a national threat.”

Other issues Hagel spoke about were the refugee crisis and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
