2 men cutting brush slain in South Texas, stolen truck found


BEN BOLT, Texas (AP) – Investigators say two men have been fatally shot while cutting brush in South Texas and deputies are trying to determine who attacked the pair.

The Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office says the bodies of 50-year-old Marcelino Guerra and 53-year-old Robert Mata, both of Alice, were found Tuesday afternoon near Ben Bolt. A pickup truck belonging to Guerra were discovered on fire Wednesday about 15 miles away, near San Diego.

Capt. Brandon Torres says a cellphone belonging to one of the victims was recovered several miles away.

Authorities are trying to determine a motive for the slayings.
