SAPD motorcycle officer sent to hospital following crash

Accident occurred around 7 a.m. Wednesday on North Side

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio Police Department motorcycle officer was sent to the hospital following an accident Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred around 7 a.m. on the city's North Side.

San Antonio police said the motorcycle officer was southbound on the access road of Highway 281 near Thousand Oaks heading to work when a woman in a sport utility vehicle pulled out of a driveway into his path. The motorcycle hit the SUV and the officer fell off, sending the bike into a concrete wall.

The officer was taken to the hospital with multiple but minor injuries. The SUV driver suffered injuries to her abdomen, possibly due to the airbag deploying.

The accident caused major traffic delays in the immediate area.

It is not known if any charges are pending.
