Cyber Monday busiest day of year at Amazon facility in Schertz

Amazon sold 500 items per second in 2014, expects better sales in 2015

SCHERTZ, Texas – Amazon is one of the most popular places for consumers to shop on Cyber Monday.

With deep discounts being offered by the online giant, shoppers are logging online in search of the best deals for Christmas.

And that means Amazon's warehouses will be very busy. In fact, Cyber Monday is Amazon's biggest day of the year.

"Last year on Cyber Monday we sold over 43 million items, which is about 500 items per second, and we expect to do better this year," said Michelle Taylerson, an Amazon spokeswoman.

If you're shopping on Amazon in the San Antonio area, you can bet your goods are coming from its facility in Schertz.

The fulfillment center, one of four in Texas is huge -- 28 football fields in size.

Small, orange, robot-like devices move boxes around the floor.

The warehouse holds tens of millions of products, all coming down the conveyor belts ready to ship.

Retailers have put out holiday lists, so what are this year's must-have items?

"Star Wars is very popular with the movie coming out, and, of course, Frozen is still also very popular. But also technology with the kids," Taylerson said.
