SA police union, city, to meet in court Tuesday

City questioning clause in union's contract

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Union and the city are expected to meet in court Tuesday.

The city is questioning a clause in the union's contract that it calls unconstitutional.

The city was in court last month with the Firefighters Union on the same issue -- the Evergreen clause.

The clause allows uniformed public safety workers to keep working with an expired contract for a decade under the last negotiated deal. The city has said that creates debt and is unconstitutional.

The unions have disagreed and are waiting for a court ruling on the Evergreen clause before resuming contract talks.
