SA Food Bank receives 3 million pounds of produce

Donation is largest in 30 years

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Food Bank said Wednesday that it received its largest produce donation in 30 years to the tune of 3 million pounds.

The donation was part of the fifth annual Harvest from the Heart event.

Donations were collected from H-E-B and farmers and produce vendors from across the country.

The food bank, which feeds 58,000 people weekly, said this donation is especially helpful during the holiday season.

"We've got so much great-quality, fresh produce that is a part of this healthy donation to really make sure that we're able to nourish families," food bank president and CEO Eric Cooper said.

The produce will be distributed to families Thursday.
