SAN ANTONIO – A driver who died in a single vehicle crash near Interstate 35 just outside Von Ormy was speeding, according to San Antonio police investigators at the scene.
Police received a report about the crash just after 1 a.m. Wednesday and found a Chevy suburban overturned. The driver already was dead, they said.
Investigators believe he had been speeding when he lost control of his car on the Medina River turnaround, slid along the guardrail about 40 feet, then slammed into a pillar under I-35.
The preliminary police report said the driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was thrown from the suburban. The other passengers in the vehicle were taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
They said it appears suburban was the only vehicle involved in the crash, although it is still under investigation.
No criminal charges are pending at this time.
The driver’s name was not released right away.
