NE Side man dials up trouble by allegedly making bogus 911 calls

Joseph Navarro 38, accused of reporting false fires

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Joseph Navarro, 38, is accused of making at least two bogus 911 calls, causing firefighters to race to his Northeast Bexar County apartment complex with the belief that it was on fire.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that the calls were placed on two different days, Sunday and Monday. Each time, firefighters responded and found no fire.

An investigator with the Bexar County Fire Marshal’s office said he noticed Navarro sitting on a porch, watching firefighters with great interest.

The affidavit stated that he approached Navarro, asking him if he had placed the false alarm calls and he admitted to doing it on both occasions. The investigators said when he asked Navarro why he did it, he told him he was bored, the affidavit stated.

During a criminal background check, the investigator said he found Navarro has numerous prior convictions for arson and other related offenses, the affidavit stated.

Navarro was arrested Wednesday on two counts of false alarm or report.
