High school students hit by SUV Thursday were not using crosswalk

1 student critical, 1 stable after accident

SAN ANTONIO – The two high school students who were hit by a Hummer on Thursday afternoon while crossing Culebra Road were not using a crosswalk, San Antonio police said.

Police said the students, both 15 years old, were crossing the westbound lanes when they were hit in the 11200 block of Culebra Road around 4:30 p.m.

Northside Independent School District spokesman Pascual Pascual Gonzalez said the students attend Communications Arts High School, a district magnet school.

The driver of the Hummer was not able to stop in time to avoid hitting the teens. The driver remained at the scene until police arrived.

One of the students was taken to University Hospital in critical condition. The second was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
