SAPD: Police arrest pair for racing on San Pedro Avenue

Suspects face charges of evading arrest, resisting arrest, and possession

SAN ANTONIO – A driver and his passenger are accused of racing and are now facing charges, San Antonio police said Monday.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the city's North Side.

Police said two drivers were racing on San Pedro Avenue near Trinity University going roughly 80 miles an hour when police gave chase.

Officers attempted to catch up to both the red pickup and white sport utility vehicles heading down Hildebrand Road. Police searched the area using the Eagle helicopter but lost sight of the truck when the driver went onto the Trinity University campus.

The pickup involved was eventually found after the truck hit two parked cars. That's when, police said, they arrested the 18-year-old driver and his 24-year-old passenger.

Police said both men face charges for evading arrest, resisting arrest  and possession of illegal substance.

There is no word yet on the status of the second driver involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
