Driver opens fire during carjacking attempt

Man tries to force driver out of SUV at Culebra, Ingram roads

SAN ANTONIO – A driver opened fire on a man who tried to steal his car late Friday night.

San Antonio police said a man tried to force a driver to get out of his SUV at gunpoint at Culebra and Ingram roads shortly before midnight.

But the driver turned the tables on the wannabe carjacker, pulling his own gun and opening fire, police said.

Several shots were fired as the carjacker fled. It's not clear if the carjacker was wounded. Police in Live Oak got a report of a shooting victim taken to University Hospital hours after the incident happened, but police weren't sure if the wounded man was the carjacker.

Neither the driver of the SUV or a teen riding with him were hurt.
