SAPD: Man shot answering door on city's East Side

Victim told police he didn't know shooter

SAN ANTONIO – An East Side man is being treated for gunshot wounds that he suffered after answering an early morning knock on his door.

San Antonio police said the victim, who is in his mid-30s, was hit once each in the shoulder and thigh.

The homeowner told police he heard a knock on his door, in the 100 block of Highway Drive, around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. The man said he cracked open the door and found another man outside, asking to use his phone.

The victim said when he refused the request, the man outside began shooting.

Police said the man inside the home told them he also had a gun in his hand at the time because he thought the early morning knock on his door was odd. He told police he was able to return fire but it was unclear if he hit the shooter.

Officers conducted a search of the neighborhood, located near E. Houston Street and WW White Road, but did not find the shooter.

They said the victim as well as other other people inside the home denied knowing who he was.

The victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment.
