SAN ANTONIO – A man convicted of attacking two San Antonio police officers in November 2013 was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Tuesday.

Darryn Robert Burgess, 42, was found guilty by a jury of assault on a public servant with a deadly weapon.

He put up a fight when two officers tried to detain him at Christus Santa Rosa Emergency Center.

As the officers tried to handcuff him, Burgess punched a female officer in the face, knocking her out.

He than began punching a male officer in the face. That officer's gun went off, shooting the officer in the leg.

The female officer regained consciousness, saw her partner struggling and was able to shoot and arrest Burgess.

Burgess' criminal history includes several misdemeanor arrests and felony convictions.
