Jackknifed 18-wheeler closed highway for hours Wednesday morning

SAN ANTONIO – A major accident was reported early Wednesday morning on Interstate 35 at Schwab Road, affecting traffic heading southbound into San Antonio.

(UPDATE: 7:30 a.m.)

The Schertz Police Department has opened two lanes of I-35 southbound near Schwab Road. The on-ramp at Schwab Road and the slow lane remain closed however, until spilled fuel is cleaned up.

Traffic continues to be backed up to Loop 337.

Investigators said an 18-wheeler jackknifed on Interstate 35 Northeast of San Antonio. The accident has shut down all lanes in the area as emergency crews work to get the big rig righted.

A pickup truck appears to have also been involved in the accident as it was witnessed on the back of a flatbed tow truck.

All traffic is being diverted to the access road to help get vehicles through. Schertz Police Department dispatch could not say how long the entrance ramp to Schwab Road will be blocked off.

Traffic is heavy but currently running smoothly on the access road.

It is not known if anyone was hurt as a result of the crash.
