Ex-cop pleads no contest to theft charges

Konrad Chatys took pot, cash from car trunk while on duty

SAN ANTONIO – A former San Antonio police officer pleaded no contest Thursday to charges of theft by a public servant.

Konrad Chatys, 32, is accused of taking marijuana, a rifle and several thousand dollars in cash from a couple's car while investigating a disturbance call on Christmas Eve 2014.

The plea deal calls for a $1,500 fine and three years deferred adjudication, which is a form of probation.

Chatys, who has since resigned from the police department, will be formally sentenced on Feb. 8.
