Man caught with fake $100 bills charged with forgery

SAPD: Zachary Adam Cofield, 31, wanted on warrant

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police arrested a 31-year-old man who they said was in possession of more than a dozen fake $100 bills inside his car at a Northwest Side motel.

According to police, an officer recognized Zachary Adam Cofield, 31, as a wanted person as he drove through the parking lot of the Motel 6 at Interstate 10 and Wurzbach Road on Jan. 4.

When the officer walked up to Cofield to arrest him, he said Cofield tried to run away. The officer caught up with him and apprehended him. A passenger inside the car was identified and released.

The officer searched Cofield's car and said he found 15 counterfeit $100 bills inside the center console, along with a Social Security card and Texas driver's license that did not belong to Cofield.

Investigators ran some tests on the phony bills and confirmed that they were counterfeit.

Cofield was booked into the Bexar County Jail and was charged with forgery-counterfeit currency, a felony.
