They were shot to death around 1:30 a.m. in a home where they lived as roommates in the Medina River West Subdivision, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Nixon, 48, was arrested after a chase and standoff with law enforcement on Highway 90 near County Road 173.

"The deputies ended up having to use their vehicles to ram the suspect's vehicle off the road," Brown said. "Then he displayed a gun and we had a 5-hour standoff with him threatening to kill himself."

Brown said the body of Nixon's girlfriend was found in the back of the truck after the standoff. Officials have not said which of the women was Nixon's girlfriend. Authorities believe that Nixon moved the girlfriend's body after killing the two women at the home in Castroville.

Sheriff's officials said the daughter of one of the victims was in the home at the time of the shooting. Officials said Nixon doused the house and the daughter with gasoline before leaving, but the home did not catch fire. The daughter was not hurt.

Nixon is charged with two counts of capital murder. He is being held on a $2 million bond.
