SAN ANTONIO – The city of San Antonio and the San Antonio Water System are helping people properly dispose unwanted or expired medicine.
Saturday was the first MedDropSA event of the year. People could also drop off household hazardous waste.
MedDropSA helps keep medications out of the environment and can help curb abuse and avoid accidental poisoning.
"There's no abuse of the drugs as time goes by, no accidental use or someone breaking into your house and using those for street sales," said SAWS spokesperson Ken Diehl. "San Antonio Water Systems is concerned about our water ways, making sure the pharmaceutical drugs, which is very challenging for waste water treatment plants, to treat."
MedDropSA has been going on since 2008 and hosts three events each year.
