Deputy hits pedestrian in southeast Bexar County

Pedestrian taken to hospital in critical condition

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A Bexar County sheriff's deputy hit a pedestrian early Tuesday evening in the southeast part of the county.

Sheriff's officials said the accident happened around 6:45 p.m. on Donop Road, just off Old Corpus Christi Road.

Sheriff's Office spokesman James Keith said the deputy was driving east on Donop and looking at a westbound car when he hit the man, who was walking on the road.

The man was flown to University Hospital in critical condition.

According to Keith, this appears to be a tragic accident, and at this point, they don't anticipate the deputy will face disciplinary action.

Keith said the fact that there is no light and no sidewalk along the road were contributing factors to the accident.

The accident is under investigation.
