All students, teachers are safe, district says

BLANCO, Texas[UPDATE 7 p.m.]  The investigation has concluded and two suspicous devices were found inside the school.

[UPDATE 5:10 p.m] Law enforcement are continuing to investigate a suspicious package at Blanco Middle School, according to the district's website.

STORY: A possible explosive device is being investigated at Blanco Middle School Friday afternoon, according to the district's website.

The Blanco School District said school officials were alerted that a student brought an explosive device to the school. School officials investigated and found a suspicious item.

The district said the school was evacuated, and local police and fire officials are investigating the situation.

The district said all students and teachers are safe.

The Austin Police Department and Austin Bomb Squad are assisting local law enforcement at the school, the district said.

"Officials analyzed photos of the suspicious device and have directed a 200-foot evacuation perimeter around Blanco Middle School," the district said on its website.

An update posted to the district's website at 1:55 p.m. Friday said law enforcement expect the situation to last until at least 4 p.m.

Buses took the evacuated middle school students to the elementary school gym. The students are being released to parents at the entrance to the gym on Mesquite Street, the district said.

Students who ride the bus will board their bus at the elementary school and be taken home as usual, the district said. Students who walk home will be released from the elementary gym at 3:25 p.m.

The district said all athletic events scheduled for Friday versus Harper in Blanco have been canceled. Blanco officials are working with Harper officials to determine if the events will be moved to Harper.
