Family of six escapes house fire

Empty gas can found near pickup truck in driveway of home

SAN ANTONIO – A family of six narrowly escaped a house fire on the city's Southwest Side that fire officials said may have been intentionally set.

A frantic neighbor called 911 around 11 p.m. to report that a pickup in the driveway at a home in the 300 block of English Saddle was on fire.

When firefighters arrived, the flames from the pickup spread to the garage and then to the home.

Fire officials said family members, especially the ones on the second floor, were lucky to get out of the home safely.

An empty gas can was found near the charred pickup, which triggered an arson investigation.
