2 arrested in thefts from local boot company

Melissa Carrera, Nathaniel Pinkney face charges

SAN ANTONIO – Melissa Carrera, 38, and Nathaniel Pinkney, 30, are facing charges in connection with what authorities say was a theft operation.

Both are accused of stealing work boots from Safety Shoe Distributors in the 2800 block of Northeast Loop 410.

An arrest affidavit said Carrera was with a man, later identified as her boyfriend, last November when they showed up at the business before it was open and began loading boxes of boots into their car.

The affidavit stated that narcotics detectives were already conducting surveillance on the couple in connection with a drug investigation.

While investigating that case, police said they discovered that Pinkney also was involved in stealing and selling boots.  Pinkney worked for Safety Shoe at the time.

The affidavit said a company manager was also involved. However, it does not say whether he or Carrera's boyfriend have been arrested.
