3 family members safely escape fire at West Side home

Fire in 300 block of Loy Drive started outside home, investigators say

SAN ANTONIO – A grandmother, mother and granddaughter are safe after escaping a fire in their burning West Side home.

The fire started around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 300 block of Loy Drive.

Firefighters said it appeared to have started outside the home and then spread into a front bedroom.  The fire caused about $40,000 in damage, firefighters said.

Because the fire started outside, firefighters called in the arson squad to investigate.

Firefighters said a fourth person who lives in the home was at work at the time.
