Election results from contested South Texas races

SAN ANTONIO – Hillary Clinton defeated Bernie Sanders, while Ted Cruz soundly defeated Donald Trump and Marco Rubio.

In Senate District 26, Jose Menendez topped Trey Martinez Fischer again. The men squared off last year to replace Leticia Van De Putte when she resigned to run for mayor of San Antonio.

Carlos Uresti defeated Helen Madla to retain his spot as state senator in District 19. Texas House Speaker Joe Straus held on to his seat in District 121. The speaker faced two GOP opponents, Jeff Judson and Sheila Bean.

Democrats nominated incumbent Henry Cuellar in District 28 in the U.S. House of Representatives. He will face off against Republican Zeffen Hardin.

Republican Will Hurd will face off against Democrat Pete Gallego for District 23 in the U.S. House of Representatives. Hurd previously defeated Gallego for the spot in 2014.

Another 2014 rematch, U.S. House of Representatives incumbent Democrat Lloyd Doggett will face off against Republican Susan Narvaiz.
