SAN ANTONIO – A family is counting their blessings after escaping a house fire on the city's Northwest Side, San Antonio fire officials said Wednesday.
The fire was reported just after 4:30 a.m. in the 5500 block of Slattery Road, found in a neighborhood just off of Wurzbach Road between Evers and Babcock Road.
A young woman from inside the house said she was one of three people inside at the time of the fire. She said their dog woke them up to the pending flames. All three made it outside safely.
The woman said the family did not have a smoke alarm.
Firefighters said the house sustained major damage. The fire spread and also damaged the side of the house next door as well.
At this time the cause of the fire is not known.
The investigation is ongoing.
