SAN ANTONIO – Jurors in the murder trial of Anthony Smith, 25, heard from experts in their fields on Wednesday, who described the evidence in the killing of Daniel Cantu.
Cantu was killed in the summer of 2013. Neighbors found his body on the ground at the Banyan Tree Apartments on Cross Creek Road.
Jurors heard from a firearms examiner, a forensic scientist and forensic pathologist.
Dr. Samantha Evans, a forensic pathologist with the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, told the jury about the injury that killed Cantu, 51.
"The only significant external finding was a single gunshot wound," Evans said.
The pathologist also confirmed Cantu had been shot in the stomach at a somewhat close range.
The state is expected to call more witnesses and will present a DNA report on Thursday.
