Community rallies around biker injured by 2 hit-and-run drivers

Family says medical bills over $700,000

SAN ANTONIO – Jose Beltran was hit by two hit-and-run drivers on Loop 410 nearly three weeks ago while riding his motorcycle.

It was the second collision that seriously injured the father of five, who was wearing a helmet.

Family and friends gathered on Sunday to host a plate sale to help cover his medical costs.

"It's overwhelming the support," said Daniella Beltran, Jose Beltran’s wife.

Jose Beltran faces a long road to recovery, he suffered six broken ribs, a broken right shoulder, broken pelvic bone and his right leg were shattered in nine places.

"He's in and out of understanding what’s going on. He's had so many surgeries," Daniella Beltran said.

Jose is expected to need at least five additional surgeries in the near future. Already his medical bills are in excess of $700,000 his wife said.

One of the drivers charged with hitting Beltran has been charged with failure to stop and render aid.
