Driver leads police on chase across SA's North Side

Chase ends just before 9:30 p.m.

SAN ANTONIO – A driver led Bexar County deputies on a chase across San Antonio’s North Side Thursday night.

The chase began on Walzem Road, near the Glen subdivision, in Northeast Bexar County. Deputies said they tried to pull the driver over because he was weaving in the road, and suspected he might be drunk.

The driver then got on to Loop 1604.

Spike strips were deployed near 1604 and Bitters Road. The driver, in his older model Toyota Camry, drove over the spikes causing some of his tires to deflate.

Deputies said they saw the driver throw an object out of his car moments before the chase ended.

As the driver tried to exit 1604 and get on to Interstate 10 he stopped the car and surrendered to police, just before 9:30 p.m.

The man was arrested and deputies said they could smell alcohol on his breath. No word on what charges the driver faces.
