Deputy Richard Hammock killed after crashing into truck

SELMA, Texas – An off-duty Bexar County deputy was killed early Saturday morning in Selma after crashing his motorcycle into a wrecked truck.

It happened around 2 a.m. on I-35 south of Schertz Parkway. According to Selma police, a truck lost control and crashed in the southbound lanes.

Deputy Richard Hammock was on his personal motorcycle when he crashed into the wrecked truck, the Sheriff's Office said. He died on impact.

The driver of the truck was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in stable condition.

Hammock was hired by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in September 2003. He worked in the jail and on patrol before recently moving to the Bexar County Court Complex.
