AUSTIN – A body was found Tuesday morning on the University of Texas campus in Austin, school officials said.
In a statement posted on the school's website, UT president Gregory L. Fenves said university police found the body in Waller Creek behind the alumni center.
"Today, we are dealing with a tragedy on campus," Fenves said.
He said police are investigating the discovery as a possible homicide.
"I have spoken with campus public safety leaders and am writing to assure you that we are doing everything possible to ensure safety on campus," Fenves said.
Fenves said authorities are not releasing the person's name pending notification of family members.
He said the campus is operating normally and classes have not been affected.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call university police at 512-471-4441.
